Welcome to the New Board of RABJ

We are thrilled to welcome the new board of Rochester Association of Black Journalists. This board is full of passion, commitment, and purpose. We are thrilled to have them leading RABJ into their next chapter and improving upon what has been built. We know you recognize a few faces.


President: Nate Brown Jr.


Nate Brown Jr. - Rochester Association of Black Journalists

Nate Brown Jr. is a multi-talented individual whose illustrious career spans over 20 years as a captivating radio host. Listeners can tune in to his engaging show, "What's Goin' On," broadcasted on Fox Sports 1280 Rochester. Throughout his journey, Nate has seamlessly transitioned between various professional roles, each leaving a profound impact. He dedicated his time to the Boy Scouts of America, leading young individuals on inspiring college tours to historically black colleges and universities. Furthermore, Nate's commitment to making a difference extended to providing valuable workshops at Monroe County Jail, where he aimed to empower and uplift those within the system.



Secretary: Theresa Marsenburg


Theresa Marsenburg - Rochester Association of Black Journalists

Theresa Marsenburg moved to Rochester in 2022 from Tallahassee, Florida to serve as News Anchor at WROC-TV News 8.  Theresa is a trusted, experienced, and award-winning journalist.  As a veteran tv journalist, Theresa has covered numerous local and national topics but enjoys producing stories involving children and families, education, health care, social services as well news about history and culture.  She is committed to elevating the voices and stories of African Americans and those who are often forgotten, misunderstood, or ignored.



Treasurer: Monwell P. Floyd


Monwell P. Floyd - Rochester Association of Black Journalists

Monwell P. Floyd, CEO/President of ImagePrinter M&P, Inc., is dedicated to serving the Rochester community. For nearly 35 years he has provided his support and voice through printed media. As a University of Buffalo graduate he has provided input to support the growth and stabilization, which he considers family, to RABJ since starting Upstate NY Gospel Magazine a decade ago.





Vice President of Broadcast: Jalen McGill


Jalen McGill - Rochester Association of Black Journalists

Jalen McGill comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience in Sports Journalism and sports Broadcast. Born and raised in Rochester NY, he received his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management at SUNY Brockport. He is currently studying at Roberts Wesleyan where he will receive his master’s in Strategic Leadership.





Vice President of Print: George Radney


George Radney - Rochester Association of Black Journalists

George “Radman” Radney is the Sports Editor for Challenger Community News, Western New York's largest weekly African-American Newspaper. He has been a Beat Writer covering the NFL and the Buffalo Bills, including 15 Super Bowls for over 25 years. He hosts the “Real Deal Sports Show” along with co-host “The Phanatic” as they take you to the locker room and beyond by giving firsthand knowledge of sports of all sorts on a National, regional, and local level.






Parliamentarian: Kevin Bryant Hicks


Kevin Bryant Hicks - Rochester Association of Black Journalists

Kevin Bryant Hicks is a freelance journalist and former staff writer for the Democrat and Chronicle (D&C) in Rochester, New York.


A Rochester native, Kevin's interest in journalism began while a student at suburban Penfield High School when a D&C reporter visited his English class. Among the various after school activities he was involved with at Penfield High was the student newspaper as a writer.


At Howard University, in Washington DC, Kevin worked on the journalism department's lab newspaper, covering stories in the wider community.



Vice President of Social Media & Marketing: Vanessa J. Cheeks


Vanessa J. Cheeks - Rochester Association of Black Journalists

Vanessa J. Cheeks is a media professional with more than eight (8) years of experience in the industry. She currently serves as the Communications Manager for Rochester’s Police Accountability Board. Prior to her work with the City, Vanessa was a celebrated television news producer with WROC-TV. While there she was part of a team that earned a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Breaking News Coverage.
